A capital city needs to breathe and grow. Nowhere is this more vital than in Scotland's capital; a government, business, financial and services hub for the country as a whole. Bold and imaginative projects such as this are needed to keep the City fit for purpose and to sustain economic growth. But this is about much more than a development for growth. It raises the standard of contemporary planning and design for the Edinburgh of the future. This concept, with its integrated park and gardenscape features, puts environmental concerns and 'green' development at the heart. With excellent transport links, imaginative leisure amenities and attractive housing, it combines economic, social and environmental objectives and the promoters have done well to put this ambitious scheme up for public discussion at this early stage.

Bill Jamieson, Executive Editor, The Scotsman
Having met with the team behind Edinburgh's Garden District, we were delighted to see the significant investment that Murray Estates has earmarked for the west of Edinburgh. Not only would the City benefit from the jobs that could be created by this development, it would provide a sustainable community with connectivity to and from all areas of the City and beyond. This can only be a positive thing for the future of Edinburgh.

Ron Hewitt, Chief Executive, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce
Primarily designed to serve the people of Scotland, the Calyx will inspire, inform, educate and delight the people who visit. This will include many from outwith Scotland drawn by its innovative design, its status as a centre of excellence and its role in educating the populace on some of the big issues that face society...

Jim McColl, Horticulturalist and Broadcaster
The facilities on offer at Edinburgh's Garden District look very exciting. The potential combination of a new multi sports complex and regional stadium for Edinburgh will provide a huge boost to sport in the region. This could also provide a new home for Edinburgh Rugby as well as other sports teams.

Gavin Hastings, OBE, Board member of Edinburgh Rugby
The bank has been a partner of Murray International for many years. Their strategic landholdings in west Edinburgh, some of which have been in the group for over 20 years, now present a very real and exciting opportunity for a new sustainable expansion to the City. We fully support Murray Estates' proposals for Edinburgh's Garden District.

Ian Shanks, Director Multibank, Bank of Scotland
We are pleased to give our full support to the Calyx. We recognise its importance as a potential exemplar of the best standards in horticulture. The Calyx will endorse the fundamentally important contribution of plants to our environment and to personal health and well being, and should become a magnificent attraction for tourism in Scotland and a substantial contributor to the Scottish economy.

David M Gwyther CBE FRSA, Director General, Horticultural Trades Association
