Edinburgh's Garden District: a great place to live
Creating this new district recognises that it is far more sustainable for people to live and work in Edinburgh rather than travelling in and out of the City on a daily basis. The west of Edinburgh provides the fourth largest employment concentration in Scotland, and so it makes sense to provide homes close by.
The expansion of Edinburgh Airport, the relocation of the national showground and the development of the International Business Gateway reflect the importance of west Edinburgh to the Capital's future.
We are proposing the introduction of 3,500 new family homes with parks and green spaces. All homes will be within five minutes walking distance of a bus or tram stop, ensuring that Edinburgh's Garden District is truly sustainable.
The Council's Vision for Capital Growth document recognises that it may be in the City's long-term interests to grow, and to reach a critical mass of population that is more likely to sustain and attract economic investment.
